GIA membership is open to insurance companies, insurance intermediaries and insurance managers who are licensed in Gibraltar by the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and wish to participate in their industry body.

Following the agreement of the revised 2012 Constitution, other types of company who provide service to or are otherwise involved in the insurance industry (e.g. auditors, actuaries, lawyers, consultancy firms etc.) can become members provided they are based in Gibraltar and are proposed by an existing member that falls within one of the categories of company referred to in the first paragraph.

As a GIA member, you will be entitled to attend our regular meetings, held at least four times a year, at which industry issues are discussed and courses of action decided upon. Often we invite representatives from the Gibraltar Government and the Financial Services Commission to give us their input, and to feed back to them. There is an Executive Committee which handles day-to-day issues of the Association, but other than that there is no heirarchy in the GIA, in other words if matters ever come to a vote, every member’s vote counts equally.

The Chairman of the GIA also sits on the Gibraltar Finance Centre Council, the body which represents the Finance Industry generally in Gibraltar, and the body with which Government frquently consults on market-wide issues. As a member of GIA, therefore, you effectively have a direct influence on many Gibraltar finance-related matters.

If you join, you will be added to our e-mail list, and via the GIA website you will be kept up to date with all the latest issues, including circulars and information of interest to the insurance market in Gibraltar.

There are two categories of member:

  • Full member is a firm of the type mentioned above that is already licensed by the FSC, or service providers and others proposed as above;
  • Observer member is a firm of this type that is in the process of applying for a licence – membership is limited to one year

Membership fees are currently £200 payable on admission to membership and subsequently on 1 January each year thereafter. Once you complete and submit the Membership Application Form on this website, you will be contacted by an officer of the GIA to arrange payment of the fee.

Provided you fulfil the membership criteria as above, we would be delighted to welcome you as a member. Please use the link below to access the Membership Application Form, and follow the instructions – we look forward to welcoming you!
